1. What is Oyster Alerts?

Oyster Alerts is a platform that automatically checks your Transport for London (TFL) account for incomplete journeys. Incomplete journeys often result in a maximum fare being applied to your account as a result of not tapping in/out of a TFL station. This maximum fare is usually more than most people expect to pay for a journey. If you are charged a maximum fare by mistake you must apply for a refund from TFL.

Up until now, you will have had to frequently log in to your TFL account and check but now Oyster Alerts does this for you.

2. How does it work?

When you create create an account with Oyster Alerts you will link your TFL account so we can check it on your behalf. To link your account at registration just enter your TFL account username and password and we will validate it.

Once your account has been set up and validated we will scan your TFL account daily for any incomplete journeys. If an incomplete journey is detected we will send you an email notification so you will no to login, investigate the incident and apply for a refund if required.

3. Is my information safe?

Yes. During registration we encrypt your TFL account credentials with a 256 bit AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) key. This is commonly referred to as "Bank level encryption" as this level is used by many banks to secure sensitive financial data.

4. What do I need to get started?

Before creating an account with Oyster Alerts, you will need to have a TFL online account. You will need to add the cards you use for travel to this account, such as your contactless bank card or Oyster card. Don't worry - we will never be able to read your bank card details as they are not visible once added to TFL.
